Photo of the Clarke School

This photo of the Clarke School, probably from the early 1940s, would have been some two decades after the school ceased operation and when it was reportedly being used in connection with an oil refining business. (Perhaps a connection there to the fire that destroyed the former school?) The photo is from the collection of Barbara Hymas, a descendant of the Dyer family and the author of the caption above. The Dyers had a longtime presence in the Vienna area, and Ms. Hymas has chronicled their history in “The Dyer Family of Fairfax County, Virginia and Related Families.” Ms. Hymas has made the book available at the Virginia Room of the Fairfax City Regional Library (call number of VREF 929.273 DYER 2012) and on the Familysearch.org website.
